• C.R. England continues to stay ahead of the technological curve, this time by employing the Manhattan Carrier product suite (offered by Manhattan & Associates), a series of programs designed to decrease empty miles and improve how the trucking company utilizes all of its resources.  For example, the Driver&Load system matches certain C.R. England drivers with the best available load, depending on its location and distance to the destination.  The suite also includes the Drop&Swap program which can diagnose any operational issues within the England fleet while cutting down on slack time and managing each driver’s hours of service and time at home.  Learn more about the Manhattan Carrier suite and C.R. England’s implementation of the technology by clicking here or visit the official Manhattan website.

  • Did you know that C.R. England is a member of the Healthy Trucking Association of America?  The HTAA is a non-profit organization that was formed to provide professional truck drivers with the resources they need and deserve to live a healthier live and also to provide trucking companies with programs and resources to assist and encourage their drivers to live healthier.  In order to foster good health in the trucking industry, the HTAA teams up with various companies and other associations relevant to the industry.  The organization recently held its first annual Summit in Atlanta and hopes to hold one every year in February to help focus more attention on driver health issues.

One of the best things about the HTAA is individual drivers can become members and for just $7.50 a month, you have access to all the tools and resources you need to get healthier – sign up here.  Or click here to watch a short video to learn more about the HTAA and its mission.  Want to know if your employer is a member?  Find out here.

  • Considering a career as a truck driver with C.R. England and been convicted of a felony offense in the past?  Here are a few things you should know before you apply:

    • Any felonies must be a minimum of ten years old from the date of your arrest (excluding those listed below).  In addition, it must be at least five years from your release date from prison.
    • A handful of felonies must be at least 15 years old before you apply.  These include armed robbery, grand theft auto, and assault with a deadly weapon or one that inflicted seriously bodily harm.
    • Felonies that must be at least 20 years old include aggravated arson where physical harm was incurred, manslaughter during commission of a crime, and vehicular manslaughter.
    • Felonies that automatically disqualify an individual from applying no matter how old the charge include attempted murder, attempted rape, murder, rape, or any crimes related to children.

While these guidelines are specific to C.R. England, most truck driving companies will have similar rules regarding applicants with felonies.  It is important that you are always honest and upfront about any felonies (and misdemeanors) you have on your application; most, if not all, truck driving companies will run a background check on you.  If they find that you have a conviction you did not make known during the application process, you may be immediately disqualified from applying.

  • While it may seem like the iPhone is hands-down the most popular cell phone, the Blackberry is actually (still) the top “smartphone” for major corporations and businesses, including C.R. England, according to an article published in the Wall Street Journal.  In fact, using applications available on Blackberry phones, C.R. England is able to track its fleet up to the minute instead of every half hour, as was the case with its old tracking system.  The GPS function on the phones also allows drivers to optimize their routes if needed (for example, to avoid traffic jams), enabling them to arrive at destinations on time.

Another important function the Blackberry provides that’s used by C.R. England drivers is the Push to Talk service.  Similar to a walkie-talkie, it allows users to connect and communicate with one another instantly without dialing.  So, drivers can give updates in a matter of seconds without the safety risks dialing would entail.

  • Even more accolades for C.R. England!  The carrier received the 2008 Carrier of the Year Award by the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company.  The Globe and Spear Award is based on on-time pick-up and delivery, equipment availability, customer service, and tracking capabilities.   The Wrigley Company has been a customer of C.R. England since 1999.  Congrats to all the hard-working folks over at C.R. England!
